Clean sweep

A scene I keep coming back to on my camera roll.

Is it some kind of decor or real life? Is that a stuffed bear in a planting pot or the vanquished villain in that afternoon’s toddler adventure?

Whatever’s happening here, I’m grateful and drawn to the clean sweep.

A new season comes this week.

What’ll embark with us in autumn and where does the broom need to do its work?

What story’s begging to be told or/better/in other words played through? Did you know we humans are allowed to play?

Playful ideas as seasons change:

  • Rake leaves and jump in; save some for a autumn garland

  • Sweep the house from one corner all the way through the front door; usher out and welcome in

  • Bake something with pumpkin spice

  • Build a fire and spend the evening telling stories (bonus joy if there’s acting involved)

  • Stay up and out to see the moon

  • Plan a meal to eat up what’s left in your kitchen, make room for harvest

  • Craft greeting cards — cute, spooky, or simple

  • Cycle through hobbies — what feels inviting?
