Hometown Holiday
St. Nicholas and his tool-toting toddler made my heart swell three times its size tonight at Morehead’s Hometown Holiday. Them, impromptu caroling, and every smiling face I saw.
Hometown Holiday Highlights:
A group of 10 or so souls willingly belting out the gospel in Christmas carol form on Main Street. One of the weirdest and most powerful things Christians can do is sing together. Where else is everyone invited to sing? Who can argue with such joyful folly?
Aaron’s costume. Heather designed and executed the entire project. How amazing it is to encounter the gifts of our community!
A college student coming up to Aaron with genuine awe in his eyes. “This is awesome, dude!” he said, referring to the St. Nicholas costume. He asked for a picture and called his friends over without an ounce of irony in his body.
Children rubbing shoulders waving at the parade and gathering candy.
The chance to be together outside without masks. We got to be together as church members, but also bear witness to God’s presence in our town.
Liz dressing up like a winter princess to read a story to the little ones.
Jesus brings us to such decisions for delight and wonder. Love moves us to parade, share, dress up, carol, and laugh.
What Child is this, indeed.
