Let us praise him
“Let heaven and earth praise him” (Ps. 69:34).
Here in Advent I feel an emphasis on that “let.” As in, allow. Permit. Do not hinder.
We humans face an important and urgent decision. Will we live into our primordial call to be keepers of creation, or continue to allow profit to plunder us dead?
Let us make room, beloveds, for one another and for all those yet to come. Let us make room in our habits, albeit ever so slightly at first, for the earth, so that she may have room to flourish and to nourish. Let us quiet our hustle and hear the mountains’ song; let us simplify and slip into step with the trees’ cadence — for they clap their hands (Is. 55:12).
Let the markets quake and the powers break, for he is coming soon.
