Twirling in the sanctuary
Tonight at the Hanging of the Green I watched my daughter worship God by twirling in the sanctuary.
It ended with a big thump on the side of a pew and big, big tears.
When we snuggled in the nursery to process what happened she said she was sad, not hurt. Sad that she fell while dancing.
I got to promise her God’s delight in her every step, God’s nearness to her in the fall, and God’s love for her forever and always.
Toddlers and liturgy are dangerous, mostly for us adults. Y’all ever struggle to trust for yourself the holy embrace you know belongs to our children?
I walked out of that sanctuary tonight redeemed in a new way.
